Why am I sore, and can’t walk today? This weekend my friend Regan and I went to Center415 in Manhattan, where Shape was holding their Body Shop NYC. The event, according to their website, was part of an event series and fundraising effort, which gives back to the Movemeant Foundation. The foundation empowers young women through fitness. Each class offered was $10, but you could buy a general admission ticket and not go to any of the classes, too.
We signed up for the 12:30pm Bodyweight STRONG Class with Adam Rosante, a leading strength and nutrition coach. All the classes were taught by famous fitness experts. I got to the space early, and was greeted by fit women in spandex. There was a DJ with a neon sign behind her, a Reebok pop-up shop, a Michelob Ultra bar (with free beer, water, Luna bars, and SlimFast chips), and a GIF booth. I won a $10 Reebok gift card, and took everything free available to me, which included a full-size St. Ives Apricot Scrub and a full-size pack of Simple wipes. There was also a massage table with a masseuse, but it was always occupied.

The class itself was intense. It was a little under an hour, but was definitely heart-pumping. Adam is ripped and I hated him by the end of the class, because I now realize how out of shape I am. I still prefer yoga as my preferred method of bodily torture, because there was a lack of mental health positivity at the Shape event that I’m used to during yoga. The other women at the event were my age or older, and they all love/hated Adam for killing them, too. Lea Michele was also supposed to be at the event, but I didn’t see her for the two hours I was there, and I was so wiped by the end of the class that I didn’t stick around.
Let’s talk about the gift bag. I’m a sucker for a good handout, and I was happy with my Shape bag. Inside the silver drawstring backpack was:
- The latest Shape magazine, with cover girl Lea Michele.
- Travel size St. Ives Apricot Scrub, Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes, Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Shampoo & Conditioner, and Arm & Hammer toothpaste
- SlimFast 100 Calorie Snack
- $20 off Manduka yoga apparel/gear
- 2 Yogi tea bags
- Full size Women’s Gummy with $2 off coupon
- AdvoGreens Green Powder
The event was an overall success, and I know, because I got an Instagram out of it.
