Last week, my friend and I decided to put a Thursday to good use and go see some art. We debated over the Met, MoMA, and the Natural History Museum, but decided on the free Brooklyn Museum. After a decent subway trip, we found ourselves a short walk from the entrance. Admission is free for members and those under 19, otherwise prices vary from $10-16. We were drawn to the museum, because of the The Rise of Sneaker Culture and FAILE: Savage/Sacred Young Minds exhibitions, which were on the same floor.
The FAILE exhibit was filled with custom pinball machines and other arcade games that were available to play for free. There was a backlighted room with neon colors from top to bottom and a room with black and white pop art. The neon signs were my favorite, just because I always appreciate good signage.
The Rise of Sneaker Culture featured dozens of sneakers dating back to the 1800s. I saw Adidas, Converse, Nike, Puma, Reebok, Prada, and many other famous sneaker brands. My favorite part of the room was the Missy Elliot music video on loop.
